ByYMCpl.MarkMcCloskeyChandlerMustangsAZOctoberwasfastapproachingandmyUnitCommanderkeptaskingmeaboutdoingaDrugDemandReductionpresen-tationforRedRibbonWeek.Athoughtcametomymindtotryanddoapresen-tationatmychurch.ImetwithmyPastor.IaskedhimifIcoulddoapresentationfortheSundaySchoolgroupcalledKid-Zone.KidZoneisforpreschoolersthru6thgrade.ItoldhimIwouldfocusonthedangersofsmoking.Hethoughtgivingapresentationtotheelementaryagekidswouldbeagreatthing.IalsodecidedtospeaktooneoftheChildrensMinistryLeaderstomakesurethatshewasokaywithmyidea.Shelikedtheideaofmydoingapresentationbutthoughtitwouldonlybeappropriatefortheolderkids4ththru6thgradewhichwastheageIwasthinkingof.Ididmypresentationanditwentwell.EvenIlearnedallthedifferentbodyor-gansaffectedbysmoking.Itsnotjustthelungsthatareaffectedmanyotheror-gansareinvolvedalso.IalsoaskedmyYouthPastorifIcouldpresentaclassaboutthedangersofsmokingtoourYouthGroup.Hethoughtitwasagreatidea.SothatSundaywasabusydayformewithaKidZonepresentationinthemorn-ingandaYouthGrouppresentationintheevening.IwasalittlenervousatthebeginningofmypresentationbutIthinkitsimportantthatthesekidsknowwhatsmokingcandotoyouandyourbodysotheyllneverstart.TwoPresentationstoYoungAudiencesWerecentlyreceivedthisnoteregardingCplMcCloskeyspresentationIwasthrilledwhenYMCplMarkMc-CloskeyaskedmypermissiontodohisDrugDemandReductiponpresenta-tionatourchurch.Iwashappythathethoughtofusandthathebelievedhismessageoflivingadrug-freelifestylewasimportantenoughtotelleveryonearoundhimeventhoseinhischurch.HedidagreatjobrepresentingtheYoungMarinesandwewereproudtohavehimspeak.Dr.JimPoitSeniorPastorNewHopeComunnityChurchGilbertAZHittingtheRoadforRedRibbonWeekTheShenandoahValleyYoungMarinesspreadoutover3statesandmadeappearancesatCityCouncilmeetingscommunityeventsanddidpresentationsintheirownschoolstocommemorateRedRibbonWeek.Herearesomehighlightpictures.-SubmittedbyGwynnHarrisonESPRITPage7
