George Division 3 Young Marine of the Year is YM/SgtMaj Carson George, 17, of Oviedo, Florida. He is a member of the Orlando Devil Dogs Young Marines under the command of John Gionet.The unit meets in Orlando,Florida.George is a junior at Paul J.HagertyHigh School. George joined the Young Marines at age 12 and is in his fourth year in the program. He credits the Young Marines for teaching him leadership skills through discipline. Outside of the Young Marines, George participates in his school’s Army JROTC, plays guitar and bass, builds guitars and is actively involved in the American Sign Language program at his school. George’s aspirations are to join the Army Reserve and work for a sheriff’s office or police department. He is the son of Steven and Danae George.Mrs.George is the sup- ply officer for the Orland Devil Dogs. George’s grandfather, Donald Chamberlin, was a USMC Sgt,Aircraft Supply, 3rd MAW. He also has a brother, Griffin George. “The Young Marines has given me plenty of opportunities to be responsible in a leadership position, all the while having a safety net of a staff to back me up,” George said. “I am allowed to make my own decisions and execute activities but in a safe, encouraging environment. This will allow me to develop my leadership poten- tial to be applied later in the outside world.” Division 4 Young Marine of the Year is YM/SgtMaj Angel Luiz Orozco,16,of Colorado Springs,Colorado.He is a member of the Pikes Peak Young Marines under the command of Kevin Coward. The unit meets in Colorado Springs. Orozco is a junior at Sierra High School. Orozco joined the Young Marines at age eight and currently, he is in his eighth year in the program. He has been named Unit Young Marine of the Year three times. He has attended Junior Leadership School, Senior Leadership School and the Adult Leaders’ Conference. He came in third place at the Na- tional Advanced Leadership School, and he participated in the Leadership Descent Hike down Pikes Peak. Twice, he attended the Navajo Code Talker Day, and he has attended the Pearl Har- bor D-Day Remembrance. In addition, he was part of the 2016 National Symposium.  Outside of the Young Marines, Orozco has been involved in football, baseball and wrestling. For five years, he was a vol- unteer at his local community center. He was named a public health champion by the El Paso County Health Department for the information he and others collected on predatory advertis- ing by tobacco companies.  Orozco plans to attend college. He wants to serve his commu- nity, be a public speaker, writer and politician to help better the lives of as many people as he can.  “I know that the leadership values and strong character I have built in the Young Marines will help me to thrive in any goal I pursue in the future,”he said. He is the son of Luiz and Jeannie Orozco. Mrs. Orozco is a reg- istered adult with the Young Marines. He has a sister as well - Cecilia Orozco. Division 4 -YM/SgtMaj Angel L. Orozco
