We at Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Young Marines take great pride in our Color Guard. We have the honor of carrying and presenting our National Colors for our veterans. It is because of our veterans that we are able to carry on... Thank you to our veterans. JPSO Young Marines: Veterans’ Day in Louisiana Upstate (SC) Young Marines put to- gether displays and power point pre- sentations of veterans they interviewed in honor of Veterans’ Day. Some had a chance to share their work with Marine Corps League, Owens-Kennemore De- tachment 1105, on December 3, 2015. It was an experience that allowed them to express their appreciation and deep gratitude for those who served and sacrificed for our freedom.Their hearts truly went into their work.It showed dur- ing their presentations, which were a great honor to share with the Marine Corps League and resulted in a standing ovation from the group, some of whom were observed with tear-filled eyes. The League invited the Young Marines to come back ev- ery quarter. Our Young Marines enjoy opportunities to speak to veterans about their service and were very grateful to those who gave their time to be interviewed. Although all of our Young Marines or- ganized interviews with veterans, time constraints allowed only a few to pres- ent to the Marine Corps League. Those who presented their interviews were YM/GySgt Jackson, YM/Sgt Flynn, YM/Sgt Gray, YM/LCpl Bishop, YM/PFC Brown, YM/PFC Kocsis D., YM/Pvt Hy- man, and YM/Pvt Wright. The veterans interviewed were SgtMaj James Roberts Jr., USMC, Cpl Patrick Ramsey, USMC, Sgt Marvin E. Lee, U.S. Army, Sgt Leonard Thackston, U.S. Army, Sgt George Miller, U.S. Army, Chief Russell Robert Ross, Jr., U.S. Navy, Petty Officer Kelly Clark, U.S. Navy, and Airman Gerald Griggs, U.S. Air Force. -- Submitted by Irina Kocsis, Historian, Upstate (SC) Young Marines In Their Own Words: Young Marines Interview Veterans By YM/SSgt Chad Van Horn South East Wisconsin (WI) Last December, the South East Wisconsin Young Marines had the great honor and privilege of participating in Wreaths Across America. We placed wreaths on the graves of men and women who served this great nation and are laid to rest at the Woods National Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI. It was made even more memorable when we learned that one of our fellow Young Marines had a family member buried there. Wreaths Across America was founded by a man named Morrill Worcester. He had his own wreath-making company and at the end of one holiday season, he had many unsold wreaths. He remembered going to Arlington National Cem- etery as a young boy and put the surplus of wreaths to good use. Looking back on this experience, I am thankful for all those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect us all. It was an eye-opening experience, and showed how much we have to be thankful for. Wisconsin Young Marines Place Wreaths on Graves Through the eyes of a Young Marine... into the soul of a veteran Pictures can speak volumes...This photograph makes me proud to be a Young Marine. To be able to meet a veteran, shake hands and lend an ear to his words, this is what it’s all about. I listened as he spoke of wars that I have only read about in books.I listened as if I were hypnotized. I will forever be grateful for the knowledge and words he shared with me. As he shook my hand he told me thank you, all I could do was say, thank you, sir! -- Submitted by YM/GySgt Martin Ragas, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (LA) By YM/MSgt Josue Monterroso JPSO Young Marines: Veterans’ Day in Louisiana Honoring Our Veterans ESPRIT ONLINE | Page 23
