Righthouse, Unit Commander, Miramar (CA) Young Marines Miramar: An Adult Leader is Promoted VFW Post Renamed in honor of Sgt Joshua D. Desforges, USMC On March 8, 2016, at the Exit 7 theater, the Ludlow VFW Post, was renamed the Sgt Joshua Desforges VFW Post. In attendance were his parents, his grandmother and his great aunt and great uncle. Sergeant Joshua Desforges, USMC, died in action in May, 2010 in the Helmand province of Afghanistan while supporting com- bat operations. Sgt. Desforges had joined the Westover (MA) Young Marines in 1999 as a stepping stone to his dream of becoming a United States Marine. During his five years in the program, he worked his way to the rank of Young Marine Gun- nery Sergeant. Later he became a member of unit, batallion and regimental staff. After entering the Marines, he served as a member of the Se- curity Forces at National Sub Base, Kings Bay, Georgia, where he guarded nuclear weapons. In January 2008, he was promoted to Sergeant with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina.
