Though the weather was mostly in the 50s ( 15 degrees below normal) and it rained the whole time, the Young Marines showed great motivation as they attacked each event with gusto. The Field Meet took place at the American Legion Southern Maryland Youth Camp, in Cheltenham, MD just outside of Wash- ington DC. Fifteen units from Division 2 participated in the Field Meet, to include the South Jersey Young Marines from Division 1. Events included Tug-o-war (2 age categories), Dodge Ball (2 age categories), One Mile Run, Three-legged Race, Hula Hoop Bump, Push Up Challenge, and Water Balloon Toss. A big highlight was an opportunity to dunk the Division Commander in the dunk tank. He went down on the first ball thrown. Not so lucky was Mrs. Nina Behringer (at right), as it took several tries before a Young Marine hit the target. Young Marines National Executive Director Bill Davis visited the event along along with Chester, our Young Marines mascot. The 2nd Division YMOY YM/SgtMaj Caleb Maurer was there for the entire weekend, encouraging the Young Marines. Mr. Davis presented several awards, as well as a meritorious promotion to Sergeant for YM/Sgt Robert Willis of the Southern Maryland Young Marines. Manassas (VA) Young Marines and Shenandoah Valley (VA) Young Marines shared Honor Platoon Honors.Ten Certificates of appreciation were presented, and the Jaylen McDonald Annual Spirit Award to YM/MSgt Gavin Cornell of the Manassas (VA) Young Marines. As they left out Sunday, they were soggy, tired and ready to do it all over again. -- Submitted by George Biedenbender, Commander, DIvision 2 Division 2: A Summary of Our Sixth Annual Field Meet The Divison 2 Field Meet.
