A Visit to Parris Island, SC By YM/Cpl Zachary Sanders Imagine School at North Port (FL) Over spring break, the Imagine School North Port Young Ma- rines went to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. We worked on the laser rifle range, then went to the actual rifle range to watch the Marine Corps recruits fire their rifles. We also took on the confidence course, obstacle course, and observed Marines preparing for the crucible. My unit went with the unit from Naples. We all bonded as a unit and became closer. A lot of Young Marines conquered fears over that week. We all are hoping to return next year or over the summer. By YM/GySgt Macie Ross Division 2 Public Affairs Correspondent On April 26th, The National Youth Military Caucus was held in Washington D.C. Four Young Marines were in attendance, YM/ MGy Sgt Dev Patel, YM/LCpl Cin- dy Borka, YM/LCpl Nathan Pare- des, as well as myself, YM GySgt Macie Ross. Sea Cadets also at- tended the event. We spoke to Sea Cadets from different units and divisions to learn about their program. Two Young Marines, YM/LCpl Borka and YM/LCpl Paredes had the privilege to participate in a joint color guard with the Sea Cadets, and I led the Pledge of Allegiance. United States Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo of Guam and United States Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina were guest speakers at the event. Six representatives, three from each program, had the honor to present speeches on what the programs mean to them. YM/MGy Sgt Patel, YM/ LCpl Borka, and I spoke on behalf of the Young Marines Program. We also had the pleasure of talking to United States Congressmen Darrell Issa and Jack Bergman, who were also in atten- dance. Overall, it was an incred- ible honor and a privi- lege to attend this event and represent the Young Marines Program. Being able to attend events like this helps us to spread the word of Young Marines Program while being able to make great memories and hear stories from many other inspiring people.Every Young Marine should have this amaz- ing opportunity to attend an event like this.
