This is especially true for some of the families and friends of our Young Marines. The Rutherford County (TN) Young Marines mourn the loss of one of our newest recruit gradu- ates, YM/Pvt Johnathon Hart, a young soul taken too soon by fate at the age of just 13 years. Johnathon was buried on Sunday May 29th, 2016 in Mur- freesboro, TN. Our YM family and our neighboring YM fam- ily, Music City, led by Unit Commander Harry Mercer, stood guard in support of not only Johnathon but his brother, YM/ PFC Taylor Hart, who is a member of the Rutherford County Young Marines. Johnathon took to the group like he always belonged,he was very friendly, outgoing and quite tech-savvy, always willing to help us set up our electronics equipment. He also loved to draw, he drew for us a Drug Demand Re- duction picture of YM mascotChester punching out drugs; Johnathon was very enthusiastic. May he continue to be the friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic person he was in this life, in the next life. He will be missed, but never forgotten. This was a sad weekend for our Young Marines as well as for the Hart family and friends. We would like to ask that every Memorial Day when you are praying for loved ones and Veterans who have passed away, that you take a moment to include in your prayers our Young Marine Private, Johnathon Hart. With warmest regards, Semper Fidelis. Remembering YM/Pvt Johnathon Hart, 2002-2016 On June 30, 2016 OPSO (LA) Young Ma- rines had the privilege to present colors at a ceremony honoring Edward A. Culp. Mr. Culp was a member of Montford Point Marines. Culp enlisted on June 5, 1942. Edward A. Culp, Assistant Platoon Ser- geant, served in the Pacific during World War II. He earned the American Campaign, Pacific Campaign and World War II Victory Medal. On June 28, 2012 the Congres- sional Gold Medal was awarded to the Montford Point Marines. The family sent a thank you letter stating that the color guard was very impressive and the that the Young Marines were sharp in their uniforms.-- Submitted by Orleans Parish Sheriffs Office (LA) Young Marines OPSO Honor a Montford Point Marine By YM/Sgt Kathryn Burke North San Diego (CA) My unit recently took a field trip to Fort Rosecrans Na- tional Cemetery in San Diego, CA. Although many of the sites date back to the early years of the California Territory, it didn’t become a National Cemetery until 1934. Notable Marine Corps Officers Lt Gen John “Iron Mike” O’ Daniel, Lt Gen Victor H. Krulak and Maj Gen Joseph H. Pendleton are interred there. It is a final resting place of honor for veterans and their families. Rows of white crosses on both sides of the road over- look San Diego Harbor on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. We spent the day cleaning and polishing headstones and plaques and policing the already immac- ulate grounds. While the Young Marines were wiping one of the stones a man walked by and tearfully thanked us. The one we were cleaning belonged to his father. Before leaving we each placed a flag on one of the gravesites. It was a sobering and enlightening experience and I look forward to our next trip.
