On July 23, we acknowledged our out- going UC Jaime Crane and welcomed our incoming UC Dave Kain. Later in the ceremony, I gave the following speech to honor Mr. Crane. At first I was nev- er really interested in being a Young Marine. That was until I went and watched the re- cruit training my brother, YM/ Sgt Trevor Kain was helping to run. That night, after observing recruit training, I decided to become a Young Marine after an encouraging conversation with Mr. Crane. Earlier that evening, a Ser- geant had asked me “Why don’t you join the program?”I quickly said “No”. Mr. Crane asked why, and I said “Because I am girl” Mr. Crane came back with “You can absolutely do it, you already know the hardest part, you have seen what we do, you know most book work from your brother and by that he could be an example to you and also help you excel in the program along with him.” I then decided that he was right, no matter what gender male or female…that if you really set your mind to it, you can do it. So thank you, Mr. Crane for en- couraging me, leading me and making me believe that I can do things other people can. I am a girl, but that doesn’t mat- ter. Thank you again. Immediately following my speech, four other Young Marines and I put on a surprise performance of the secretly formed silent rifle drill team. The crowd and Mr. Crane thoroughly enjoyed our surprise. The rest of the cer- emony went perfectly and our unit is ready to serve under Mr. Kain. To see more pictures, check out our unit’s website at www.tehamacountyyoungmarines.org.
