They say that time flies when you are having fun, and I think that must be true because I can’t believe that summer is already over. I’ve kept a busy summer schedule, trying to visit as many units, graduations, SPACES, academies, and en- campments, in order to speak to as many Young Marines and Volunteers as possible. At every opportunity to interact, I remain impressed with the quality of the youth in our program—it’s a reflection of both the dedication and personal perseverance of our Young Marines as well as to the hard work and commitment of our Volunteers. Thank you all for continuing to be a posi- tive reflection of our program. Our National Leadership Academy was one of the most motivational events I have ever been privileged to attend. Young Marines from around the country formed bonds of friendship, worked together, and helped each other accomplish tasks that may have seemed insurmountable. I have every confidence that the knowledge learned will be shared at the unit level from each Young Marine who attended. We were honored to once again be an integral part of National Code Talker Day at Window Rock, Arizona, with the Navajo Nation. Our Young Marines and Volunteer team, led by Mrs. Brenda McNulty and Mr. Joe McDonough, performed exceptionally well. We were also very fortunate to have the 18th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, SgtMaj Greene, join us. Be sure to watch our latest edition of the Young Marine’s News Network to hear about the event as well as other activities held throughout the summer. My sincere thanks for all of your warm hospitality this summer; I look forward to seeing you soon in future travels and events! Please continue to send all of your great stories to Esprit. We want to celebrate all that you do at your units. Remember that the online edition contains even more information and videos, so be sure to visit www.youngmarines.com. School is back in session and now is a great time to implement the positive be- haviors and lessons that you learned from one another over the summer. Young Ma- rines, there is no problem that you are ex- periencing, have experienced, or ever will experience that someone in our program hasn’t gone through and overcome. Each of you is a part of our Young Marine fam- ily and you matter to us. If you are feeling overwhelmed by any issue, know that help is a conversation away. Stay motivated, stay engaged, and keep living a healthy, drug-free life!
