We had a class on knot tying, toured the facili- ties, monitored distress calls, visited the sleeping quarters as well as the chow hall and boarded several boats. During this organized field trip, our Young Marines got first hand knowledge on what the mis- sion of the Coast Guard is, as well as how to join. Our Young Marines were very intrigued with the possibilities of a Coast Guard career and were inquisitive. This trip also exposed our Young Marines to many career opportunities that will influence their decisions in the future. --Submitted by Deputy Jamil Champagne, Unit Commander, Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (LA) Young Marines.
