Bond Hendricks County (IN) Veterans Remembrance Day is very important to me be- cause it’s one of the very first times I did anything for Veter- ans. So thanks to Veterans Remembrance Day, it gave me the respect I have for Veterans. Also, it made me appreciate and give the THANKS these Veterans deserve. Veterans Remem- brance Day also showed me not to just appreciate living Vet- erans but to also remember and appreciate those Veterans who are no longer with us. Also, to appreciate the families of every Veteran. That is why Veterans Remembrance Day is so important to me. It Means the World to Me YM/Cpl A. Bond Hendricks County (IN) Veterans Remembrance Day means the world to me be- cause when else do you get to support the lost veterans that made this country free. And when we do our reports on a veteran it is everything if the parents are there because you can sit with them and talk to them. You are able to tell them what you learned about that veteran. This year was great because we were able to see the parents for my veterans and my brother’s veteran. It’s The Least We Can Do For Them YM/Cpl C. Bond Hendricks County (IN) Veterans Remembrance Day is important to me because I want everyone that served and died, to be remembered right, and to be noticed for their hard work. We wouldn’t be free if we didn’t have them to fight for us and this great country. So I think it’s the least we can do for them in return for keeping us free. It Gives Me a Good Feeling YM/SSgt A. Hulett Hendricks County (IN) Veterans Remem- brance Day to me is when the Young Ma- rines, Adult Leaders and other people from around the city, come to show respect for those who served in the Military, to give us freedom. Not only that but they gave up being able to spend Holidays with their families and loved ones. They left home to fight for us and our rights. Veterans Remembrance Day is one of the ways we give them thanks and though not all of them make it home, this is how we thank them because we cannot thank them all in person. Another thing is that even when they come home, not all of them come back the same. As a matter of fact, none of them come back the same. People are always talking about how hanging out with family is so great but if they had someone in the military, fighting, they would have a totally different perspective on how it feels to not have the whole family at the table at Christmas or Thanksgiving (or any day, for that matter). Family members are constantly asking themselves is he/ she coming home. The ones with kids have to deal with the little kids asking when Daddy or Mommy is coming home. So you say “yes” out of fear or emotion but in all reality, you never know for sure if that loved one is coming home. These are just some of the things I think about when I think about Veterans Remembrance Day. I love to do this ceremony be- cause the loved ones get to see a balloon fly with their loved one’s name on it, there’s a choir singing, they get to hold a vigil candle and stand on the steps of the War Memorial. The Marines perform a 21-gun salute and Taps is played. I think that for some people, it really means a lot what we do and that gives me a good feeling to be a part of something like this.
