10 YOUNG MARINES ESPRIT ONLINE Division 6 -YM/SgtMaj Anna T. Saucedo Temecula Valley (CA) Division 6 Young Marine of the Year is YM/SgtMaj Anna Saucedo, 16, of Temecula, California. She is a member of the Temecula Valley Young Marines under the command of Gary Reed. Saucedo is a junior at Temecula Valley High School. Saucedo joined the Young Marines at age 12 and currently, she is in her fourth year in the program. Anna was the hon- or graduate of her recruit class. Her proficiency in American Sign Language earned a communications ribbon, and other ribbons that mean a great deal to Saucedo are for veteran’s appreciation and community service. Outside of the Young Marines, Saucedo is involved in cross country and track and field. She is a peer tutor at the public library and involved in the National Honor Society, Youth Ad- visory Council, cards for the Community Club, American Sign Language and church youth group. After she completes high school, she plans to earn a degree in the mathematics field at a military service academy or a four year university with an NROTC program. Saucedo aspires to become an officer in the United States Marine Corps or Navy. Anna is the daughter of Angela and Abel Saucedo, who are both supportive of their daughter’s choices and involvement. She has three brothers and one sister. Greater Cleveland (OH) Division 5 -YM/SgtMaj Michael J. Dulin Division 5 Young Marine of the Year is YM/SgtMaj Michael Dulin, 17, of Cleveland, Ohio. He is a member of the Greater Cleveland Young Marines under the command of Craig Boone. Dulin is a junior at Olmsted Falls High School. Dulin joined the Young Marines at age 10 and currently, he is in his seventh year in the program. He has won 39 ribbons and two separate President’s Volunteer Service awards. By at- tending all three levels of the Young Marine Leadership Acad- emies, he’s been honored with two Iron Mike awards for the highest score on the Physical Fitness Test. Also, he won an Honor Graduate award from the Senior Leadership Academy. Outside of the Young Marines, Dulin plays varsity football and year-round Lacrosse. He plays trumpet in his school’s top ensemble, and he’s involved in Student Council and Key Club. He is a member of the National Honor Society. Once a month, he volunteers at the Scranton Road Soup Kitchen in down- town Cleveland. After high school, Dulin hopes to become a Navy SEAL. To accomplish this, he plans to attend the United States Na- val Academy or an NROTC college program. Post-military, he hopes to become a member of the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team. “Becoming a Young Marine is the best decision I’ve ever made for myself,”Dulin said.“The Young Marines has made me who I am, mentally, physically and morally, and I cannot think of an aspect of my life that has not been positively impacted by my status as a Young Marine.” He is the son of Michael Dulin Sr.and Dawn Dulin,and he has one brother and one sister. Mrs. Dulin is the unit’s corpsman.
