A day of service, that’s what makes this day special. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wanted everyone to participate and give back to their community, and our unit does just that throughout the year, as many of our fellow Young Marines do, too. This was our unit’s first time to participate in our City of Se- guin’s Martin Luther King Day March and our Executive Officer, Mr. Durst, helped to organize it. We were invited to provide the color guard for the march and were happy to participate. As you can see in the pictures, many of our town members participated in the march and then listened to the speeches before and after, to encourage everyone to give back and serve their community. --Submitted by Dina Dillon, Unit Commander, Guadalupe Valley (TX) Young Marines Guadalupe Valley: Celebrating Martin Luther King Day By YM/Cpl Chelsea Ponder Atlantic Coast (FL) All eyes were on the Jack- sonville community, as we all came together on the week of Valor, honoring veterans and their families. I look forward to this event every year. Having the opportunitty and honor to shake hands with every individ- ual veteran in that room is a true bless- ing. We arrived two hours prior of the doors opening in order to set everything up and for color guard preparation. We wanted this night to be perfect for all the departments of the military. The event has a short Mass at the beginning for everyone to say a prayer for those in other countries serv- ing for our freedom and rights. After that, the Atlantic Coast (FL) Young Marines’ color guard made there way down the aisle for the Pledge of Alle- giance and National Anthem. As the Young Marines handed out food and drinks, veterans shared their amazing and fascinating stories. While everyone ate, the Young Marines took a little break time and exchanged stories of what the veterans had told them. This event might not mean a lot to some peo- ple, but these veterans deserve this and I’m really glad ACYM had a part with it. “Valor is stability, not of legs and arms, but of courage and soul.” - Michel De Montaigne ACYM: A Week of Valor to Honor Veterans and Their Families UNIT MYYM My unit is great. I’ve been shown the way to march, and so much more. My Unit Gunny is a great teacher.
