Northern Kentucky Young Marines volunteered at the Bluegrass Sportsmen’s League on 21 and 22 October 2017. By YM/PFC Kohen Drahman Northern Kentucky (KY) This event (sponsored by Glock) was an awesome experience and it was great for the Young Marines. The event was a shooting compe- tition, held in Wilmore, KY at Blue Grass Sportsmen’s League. My ex- perience was amazing,I met a lot of new people and made new friends. Some of the amazing things that we did were pasting the bullet holes in the targets, spray painted over the marks on the metal targets caused by the shooters. The staff representing Glock was generous enough to pro- vide all the Young Marines and volunteers with chow. I had a special experience to use a Glock firearm myself. For my first time shooting, it was really fun. Safety was a major concern, all Young Marines had to wear eye and ear protection when they were at the ranges. This is something that the Glock rep- resentatives were very serious about. The pistols that were fired had been done so at close proximity, so without them, you risk damage to your ears. The ceremony was in honor of those who gave their lives in the Pearl Harbor attacks on December 7, 1941. Young Marines from across the nation gathered in the morning. Our National Young Marine of the Year,YM/SgtMaj Angel Luiz Orozco, placed a wreath for the fallen warriors. It was a great and moving experience.
