By YM/Cpl Chelsea Ponder Atlantic Coast (FL) Last February, the Atlantic Coast (FL) Young Marines were up and early at Ad- venture Landing Water Park, to experi- ence teambuilding, communication, and a day of fun for the Young Marines who had worked so hard all year. The Young Marines didn’t know what to expect. The objective of the scavenger hunt/race was to work together as a team and to make sure EVERYONE has a leadership opportunity. While we were there we did a variety of things. For example, earn exactly 150 tickets in the arcade room with 8 tokens, laser tag, go-carts, a roller coaster where you have to hold water while riding and at the end try to fill up a pitcher with the remain- ing water you have, blindfold mini golf, feed- ing alligators, and trying not to get a brain freeze drinking a large slushy. Within everyone in your group, only one person may be the leader of the ac- tivity.Watching the Young Marines ambi- tion to reach the finish line as a team united was by far my favorite part of the day. This event really brought us close to learn about each other. At the end of the day all the smiles on there faces are so worth the time and effort put into this event and I couldn’t be more thankful. Everyday is an opportunity to test your- self against your potential. “Successful people build each other up. they moti- vate, inspire, and push each other towards greatness. coming together is a beginning, working together is a progress, finishing together is success!” - Henry Ford ACYM: Informal Way to Learn Teamwork and Get a Leadership Opportunity Cross Roads (TX) Young Marines were fundraising at the local Pizza Inn in Big Spring, trying to make some extra dough, and we found it was easy as PIE! Pizza Inn gave us the opportunity to run our fundraiser and their restaurant for a few hours. Our Young Marines, parents, and RAV Staff all jumped into host- ing, seating our custom- ers, waiting tables, and serving fresh, hot pizza and cold drinks. We also maintained the pizza buffet and salad bar, and had our local Young Ma- rines mascot help bring in the customers. Pizza Inn is a fine locally owned fine pizza restaurant in the Big Spring com- munity. They support the Young Marines and assist in fundraisers to many groups in the area. Pizza Inn shared 10% of our evening sales and 100% of tips. The Young Ma- rines earned over $700 for just a few hours of hard work. -- Submitted by Carrie Rodman, Unit Adjutant, Cross Roads (TX) Young Marines Cross Roads: You Might Say We Earned Lots and Lots of Dough...
