Division 1 Young Marine of the Year YM/Sgt Maj Enrique Herrera Division 2 Young Marine of the Year YM/Sgt Maj Lauren Loria Division 3 Young Marine of the Year YM/Sgt Maj Samuel Styes YM/SgtMaj Enrique Herrera, 17, of Follansbee, West Virginia, is a member of the Tri-State (WVA) Young Marines. Herrera is a junior at Brooke High School. “Having met many Division Young Marines of the Year, I understand how prestigious this achievement is,” he said.“I am very humbled to have been selected as Division 1 Young Marine of the Year. I am eager to follow the lead of those before me and set an example for those after me.” Herrera is the son of Christina and Hector Herrera, both of whom are involved in the Tri-State Young Marines. He has two brothers. YM/SgtMaj Lauren Loria, 16, of Fairfax, Virginia, is a member of the Col Wesley Fox (VA) Young Marines under the command of Terri Loria. Lauren is a junior at Chantilly High School. Among Lauren’s biggest supporters is Terri Loria, who is not only her mother, but also the commander of the Col Wesley Fox Young Marines. Her brother,Alex Loria, was a Young Marine for nine years, and he was a recipient of the Jimmie Trimble Scholarship. “The Young Marines taught me how to teach others and accomplish more as a member of a team,” Loria said.“It has shaped me into the confident leader I am today.” YM/SgtMaj Samuel Styes, 16, of Harvest,Alabama, is a member of the Rocket City (AL) Young Marines, under the command of Sheryl Herron. Styes is a junior at Sparkman High School. Styes is the son of Jill and Don Styes, and Jill is the ex- ecutive officer of the Rocket City Young Marines. He has two older brothers. “The Young Marines helped me become the person I am today by teaching me the core values of leadership, discipline, teamwork, and integrity,” Styes said.“These principles are the rocks on which I use in day-to-day life.
