However, many take this day to party, spend time with family and friends, cook- ing outdoors, travelling or so forth and forget what Memorial Day is all about. Units across America will come together with family and friends to honor and pay tribute to our fallen brothers and sisters. Chino Valley (CA) Young Marines started our weekend by first coming together on Friday for some fun time at Part Kingdom in Chino. Our Young Marines certainly had a great time. Then bright and early Saturday morning, we all came together once again at Riverside Na- tional Cemetery, along with hundreds of other volunteers to honor those who gave their lives for our freedom at the Flag for Every Hero Ceremony. YM/GySgt Eng of our unit addressed those present with a heartfelt speech about the history of Memorial Day.Following the ceremony, we all were given flags which were placed at the headstone of each soldier. As we honor those who have fallen, we were able to also reflect on other brave souls who are still hurting, who are broken and are seeking peace which continues to elude them. Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day and dates back to the years following the Civil War. On this week- end, we all honor and remember our country’s fallen heroes. As we do so, let us all reflect on their sacrifice and let us pray for God’s peace, protection, and provision over all the brave men and women currently in the armed forces. On Memorial Day, 2016, Chino Valley Young Marines continued to honor our fallen at the Wreath Lay- ing ceremony in Chino Valley. Our color guard was given the privilege of opening the ceremony with the presentation of the colors as the National Anthem was played. We remember that the special men and women of the armed forces valiantly gave their lives for each of us.We can proudly say that generations of Americans have fought for the free- dom that we enjoy in this great nation. And as such,we should never forget that freedom is not free but it comes at a very high price.Today, we honored those brave men and women of the Korean War, Operation Iraqi freedom, World War II, Desert Storm, the Vietnam War as the women of the American Legion placed wreaths for those fallen. John 15:13 states, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” In the words of President Harry S. Truman, “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.” Chino Valley: We Remember the Fallen on Memorial Day Memorial Day 14 YOUNG MARINES ESPRIT ONLINE
