It was an experience that I tell ev- eryone will change my life for many, many years to come. I made friendships with Young Marines faster and stronger than anywhere else in my entire life.I had the distinct pleasure of bunking inside of Pruitt Squad Bay (named after a Lifesaving Ribbon Recipient) and bonding with all of my fellow Young Marines in the same bay, even creating a culture of brother- hood, encouragement, happiness, strength and outstanding leadership unique throughout all of the entire academy. In fact, five of the Top Ten recipients at ALS were from Pruitt Squad Bay. Together with my Young Marine family, I conquered fears I thought I never would have like close order drill, heights, being in command and many other obstacles. Thanks to Ad- vanced leadership School I also gained focus, direction and motivation in what I hope to do after Young Ma- rines, which is to have a long career in Law Enforcement keep drugs and crime away from our youth. I encourage all Young Marines to strive to reach it to the top and go to this excel- lent learning experience and better themselves in every way possible. Advanced Leadership School: Highly Recommended By YM/LCpl Kirk Meldrum Lapeer County (MI) There were two things that everyone felt at Junior Leadership School, nervous- ness and excitement. No one knew what we were going to do, all we knew is that we wewre here to learn to be leaders, and that was good enough for us. Most of the week is spent working on the physical fit- ness test, practicing for your drill evalu- ation, taking classes and the uniform in- spection. During free time at JLS, you spend it by studying, marching, polishing your boots, and getting to know each other. In one week of JLS you will get as much motiva- tion as you would during all of the yearly drill meetings combined, not just from the staff members but also from the kids. They will help you, calm you, and motivate you through it all. No matter what, they will push you to your limit and beyond , turning you into a great leader. When you get back to teaching your peers, they will change for the better because of you. To get to JLS you have to want it, you have to have a lot of dedication. You have to be able to listen and learn, and be able to put up with dif- ficult situations all week, but if you get to JLS it will pay off tremendously in the end.
