We marched in from third base and stopped at the edge of the pitchers’ mound. But we weren’t the only ones presenting the colors that night, the U.S. Air Force was there as well. They marched in from first base to the edge of the pitchers’ mound as well. We both marched in a single file. The Young Marines did a left face then a counter march so that our American flag would still be on the left side (facing the colors) and still be the first flag out. All the Young Marines who presented the colors did an excellent job. I led with the American Flag, YM/PFC Vincente Pasquale as left bearer, YM/PFC Bruce Can- natelli right rifle bearer, and YM/Rct Sean Baker as Young Marines flag. We received many compliments. Proudly Presenting Our Nation’s Colors at Blue Rocks Stadium The Mid-Cumberland Young Marines spent the entire day on Sat- urday, September, 10th, 2016 participating in the Marine Week ac- tivities in Nashville, Tennessee. They met active duty Marines and viewed equipment currently used by the military. The Mid-Cumberland Young Marines partici- pated in a simulated bootcamp and obstacle course. The highlight of our day was meeting and having our picture taken with the 34th Assistant Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, General Glenn M. Walters. The Young Marines were so proud to not only showcase the organi- zation to the city of Nashville but also demonstrate to the Assistant Commandant our dedication and motivation. --Submitted by Charles B. In June 2016, during its annual convention, the Depart- ment of Connecticut Marine Corps League recognized its 2016 Young Marine of the Year. This began as a result of former YM/SgtMaj Connor McMahon making an impres- sive presentation on the Young Marines program to those in attendance at the 2013 Department of Connecticut con- vention. Many League members commented favorably, some of them never having met a Young Marine. In the Fall of 2013,the Department of Connecticut Marine Corps League adopted a policy of identifying and recognizing a Young Marine of the Year from those Young Marine units in the state of Connecticut. The state is currently home to four units. The 2016 Department of Connecticut Marine Corps League Young Marine of the Year is YM SSgt Karina Bar- stow from the Nachaug River Young Marines. Michael worked at the Young Marines booth at the American Legion convention and in a matter of a few hours sold $539 worth of Country Meats Sticks, more than we’ve ever had sold at a convention. All profits from the sales went to the units that helped out at the Young Marines’ booth at the convention. YOUNG MARINES ESPRIT ONLINE 7
