By YM/MSgt Nina Staben Greater Lake County (OH) This is the speech that I presented to my FEMA Community Emergency Response Team graduation. I am Young Marines... My Mission... CERT Camp 17. My Goals... Believe, Succeed, Achieve Together... We emphasize the character name, Leadership Together... We are One, Strong and Bold We Fight... To help our community from evil disasters. Conquering our future. Seeing the path... for those who are blind. Undoing the knots, in the rope. Renewing the one thing that we are... More than friends, bigger than an organization. A Family. Truly we hold, the well being of each other’s lives. I am my Brother’s Keeper they say, We are our Brother’s Keeper. Together... We are Young Marines. (Continued from previous page) When class was complete we went to the archery range and the rock climbing wall. At night we all came together ei- ther for karaoke or sport-related games. In addition, we had a few special guests. Mr. Joe Venable, the Young Marines National Deputy Direc- tor, Mr. Scott Levy, an actor known for his voice acting in military video games as well as movies and TV shows, and Mrs. Lesli Kay, an actress who has appeared on the Emmy-award winning show As The World Turns. Towards the end of the week we took a trip outside of Camp Courage and back into civiliza- tion. There, we visited the Ronald Rea- gan Library (I highly recommend that you visit ), swam at Malibu Beach and drove through Hollywood (I also tried In- and-Out Burger for the first time). I am grateful for this opportunity. The Young Marines Alumni Association SPACES Scholarship gave me the opportunity to experience something that many people my age would not. I encourage every Young Marine to apply for SPACES, be- cause it truly is a once in a lifetime op- portunity to meet amazing people, travel the country, and learn something new.
