Presenting the colors in the ceremony were 6 members of the New Castle County Young Marines. Those in attendance included the Marine Corps League, The Patriot Guard Riders, and many veterans as well as several who are currently serving in our Armed Forces. Major General Frank D.Vavala gave a stirring tribute to the memory of hundreds of Americans that have suffered at the hands of the enemy or have fallen on the field of battle. He also reminded us of the sorrow and loss that their loved ones had to suffer, sometimes not even knowing their fate. It was a privilege to attend a ceremony to remember those that have fought and served our country so bravely. The Empty Chair ceremony honors POW/MIAs. By YM/PFC Michael Manley Atlantic Coast (FL) The Atlantic Coast Young Marines had the honor of march- ing in Jacksonville Florida’s Veterans Day Parade, which honors all of our vet- erans and active duty military. Distinguished guests included Grand Marshal retired Lt. Col. Rogers B. (“Ti- ger”) Holmes, USAF (Ret.). Also in the parade was MSgt Har- old Davis, USMC (Ret.), Jacksonville’s oldest veteran. Many senior military officials, active-duty and retired military units, veterans’ groups, local high school marching bands, floats and giant bal- loons were present. The Atlantic Coast Young Ma- rines were asked to stand at the front of the parade and salute all of the heroes as they passed by. It was an honor to be so close to so many brave men and women who we respect so much. We then marched to the end of the parade as so many people watched and cheered. It was nice to see how grateful everyone was to our military and veterans. We have the freedom to have a parade like this because of all of their selfless actions. I look up to them hope to be like them one day, and thank everyone who serves our great country. Atlantic Coast: We Marched in a Veterans Day Parade
