YOUNG MARINES ESPRIT ONLINE 37 On Saturday,the 16th of December,the Young Marines of New Castle County (DE) had a wreath carrier and Color Guard. The Young Marines serving on the color guard were YM/PFC Gill Kent on the Unit Flag and YM/Recruits Josiah and Judeah Dolar on rifles, and LCpl Bruce Cannatelli. The New Castle Young Marines presenting the wreaths were PFC Anthony Nesspor and YM/Recruit William Burbank. The New Castle Young Marines had this event in honor of the Revolutionary War. Twenty three farmers died at the battle of Cooch’s Bridge trying to slow down the British troops advanc- ing towards Philadelphia. The wreaths that were presented were from the Wreaths Across America and this event took place at the Pencader Heritage Museum in Newark, DE. =Submitted by Dale V. New Castle: A Young Marines Color Guard and Wreath Presentation Lewis and Clark: Wreaths to Honor Veterans and Their Sacrifices During the Christmas season, many people gather to spend time together and share memories of the past. For members of the Lewis and Clark Young Marines, this included gathering to lay wreaths on veterans’ graves as part of the annual Wreaths Across America remembrance ceremony. On December 16, youth in the Lewis and Clark (WA)Young Marines gathered at the Evergreen Memorial Gar- dens for a ceremony honoring the sacrifices of veterans and to place wreaths on the graves of service members. The Wreaths Across America ceremony is a nationwide event that begins at 10 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery, YM/MGySgt Emma Langley explained. Langley served as youth coordinator for this year’s ceremony at Ev- ergreen Memorial Gardens. For the 2017 Wreaths Across America ceremony, 663 wreaths were sponsored for Evergreen Memorial Gardens, and of those, the Lewis and Clark Young Marines sold 461, according to Debbie Crawford, public affairs officer for the Lewis and Clark Young Marines. Prior to placing the wreaths in the cemetery, a ceremony was held in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens chapel. The ceremony included opening remarks by Devin Lewis, a Marine veteran and unit commander for the Lewis and Clark Young Marines. The ceremony was officiated by Young Marines Chaplain Steven Stanley and YM/ SSgt Joshua Bambilla.A Young Marines color guard accompanied the opening ceremony. Portland Police Highland Guard member Garth Edwards, playing- bagpipes leads the procession from the Evergreen Memorial Gar- dens chapel to the cemetery to place wreaths on veterans’graves in the Wreaths Across America ceremony.
