MY YM UNIT Artistic YM Creates Anti-Drug Ad for Unit Project Alert By YM/Pvt Brennan Santiago-Berrios Imagine School at North Port (FL) Teamwork, Discipline, Leadership. This is the definition of the Young Marines. These are the three things I have learned of the Young Marines. I have learned many things such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, responsibility. The Young Marines got me into better shape and taught me how to do push ups, sit ups, and the sit and reach so I can stay in shape. I can not wait to see what happens next and all of this is because of the Young Marines and for that I say “ Thank You” and Semper Fidelis! Teamwork, Discipline and Leadership...Thanks and Semper Fi! By YM/GySgt Luke Smith, Division 6 Public Affairs Correspondent North San Diego (CA) Army Chief Warrant Officer Dan Iman earned his medals and citations over 40 years ago. He was wounded and recovering in the hospital when they were unceremoniously shipped to his home. He assumed that military offi- cials would eventually get around to a presentation, but that never happened. They were left in the box and forgotten about. When one of his friends noticed that he didn’t have any awards displayed in his home,he got Mr.Iman to tell his story. It didn’t sit well with him at all. He wrote letters and made phone calls until it got the attention of Congressman Dar- rel Issa. At long last it was time to open that box and have a hero-worthy presentation. During Mr.Issa’s opening remarks he stated,“Considering the importance of the awards that Dan Iman has earned it’s re- ally mind blowing that his ceremony fell through the cracks. The Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Purple Hearts, The Army Commen- dation Medal and the Air Medal are those that are rarely awarded and he has earned them all.” He spoke of his heroic service while flying helicopters in Southeast Asia.“He flew in to areas where there was no support and res- cue would be nearly impossible.” Sur- rounded by his comrades, friends and family at the Veterans Association of North County, he finally received that recog- nition that he deserved. His son, Army Sgt. Trebel Iman and Congressman Issa pinned on a table full of medals that he humbly accepted. Citations were read and he responded as most war heroes do,“It was my job. It’s my country.”The North San Diego Young Marines were honored to provide the Color Guard and lead the Pledge of Allegiance for this very special occasion.
